Monthly 8-Ball
Tournament
The Monthly 8-Ball Tournament
was by all accounts a rousing success.
The Tournament format was substantially
changed. All the Tournament winners
in the last calendar year were excluded from entry. Only non-winners played.
We did this as an experiment to encourage the participation of those who may
have felt that they otherwise would have no chance to compete for the top
prizes.
We enjoyed a
full field participation of 36 players, 18 each at the
We had several
first time players and several residents who had played in
prior years but had not played recently. The rest of the field was made up of
the "regulars."
The competition itself was outstanding. We had 4 players in the
undefeated. To anyone's knowledge, this was a first, a record number.
After lunch, we
had the playoffs. Most of the other participants stayed to
watch so we had a room full of billiard enthusiasts. The matches were very
well contested and there were several run-outs with outstanding shot making.
Richard Johnson
came back from the B-side to win first place.
WebMaster note: Yes, it's the same Richard "Dick"
Johnson
who helps sponsor this site. Check his ad at the bottom of this page.
Congratulations on your win. See you in the "winners" group next
month.
The crowd was going wild. We could have sold tickets (idea for next
tournament?).
This whole activity was concluded on time and on schedule. The many persons
who gave lots of time and energy to help out can never be properly thanked but
they know who they are and they know that the players thoroughly enjoyed the
day. As always, that is compensation enough!

NEW VOLUNTEER POSITIONS CREATED.
RESIDENT CONTACTS FOR RECREATION CENTERS (BILLIARDS):
A request was made by the Recreation Department to the Billiards Council
to have one designated resident act as a single point of contact.
They will work directly with the Recreation Director of that center.
These volunteers will have their names posted at each center so others
will know who to contact. The primary job of these contacts is to alert
Rec Directors of small things that need to be addressed, like light bulbs,
loose pockets on the tables, chalk needed, etc.
Anything major would be submitted by the resident contact to the Council
and listed on a Council Request Form to inform The Recreation Department.
