SEREN is now a UKC Grand Champion

Over the Memorial Day weekend, we went one of the 3 show days in Hollywood, Florida.
It was a stormy weekend off and on, but it is always nice to get out with dogs and friends
even if you are dodging lightning and rain.

Seren has needed one win for a long, long time, but youngsters around here tend to get more
of the attention on show days. Seren has such a nice temperament, that he is always the one
who gets "handed off" to a stranger to show in the ring, while I am showing a more "needy" pack
sibling and often that translates in a dog who does not show at his best and he has had a hard time
getting that final champion win.

We were very fortunate this time in that the "stranger" who agreed to show Seren
was an experienced Chinese Crested handler, who got Seren's focus off ME
and onto her and he showed nicely and won the class. YAY SEREN!!
We are very proud of you.

In celebration, Sierra and I took Seren and 2 pups to the beach for some sun and surf.

The Shelter Challenge

Hello Anne
Thank you for putting me on your mailing list after I contacted you about my little RT last Summer.
She is the one I lost from Parvo within a week of finding her. It has been a rough road. I don't know why so tough,
as I have held many paws at the end throughout the years. This was the worst, but I have found something to help me
(and it is) plus being able to give to many dogs who have been lost, rejected or owner turned in for a number of reasons.
I have been volunteering at our local Animal Control. I just love it. Our City/County is combined and we have a wonderful director
who was from Arizona before coming here. They work so hard even though all the funding was cut back,
jobs and such because of the economy. No adoptable dogs are euthanized and they have many rescue groups
who take a number of them. Our County is building a huge new facility which will open in Jan. of next year.
Last year they purchased a 16 wheeler that has a surgical unit inside. It is used to spay neuter Cats and dogs
when the clinic is full. Last mo. they took it to catch, neuter and release many, many cats in a County Mobile Home Park
where there were hundreds roaming. I think, they wished they would have had it during the Katrina thing.
(many went there to help) The old Humane Society we had here before the County and City joined together for
Riverside Animal Control. It was a pretty depressing place. This is so much better and a private organization
took over the other facilities and just built a really nice large facility next to the old one. They depend on donations
and fundraising and really take a load off the City/County one. So, anyway, just wanted to tell you thank you so much.
These newsletters I enjoy so much. I'm sure one of these weeks I'll check in and find another sweet little RT
to take home and love.
