There are as many ways to recognize people as there are people to recognize.

Goodbye Rattie Friend!
Janella Weaver
August 24, 1958 - July 30, 2009
Passed away due to complications in conflicting medications
She was one of the original PHARTers in October 1999.
She was also one of the original "Ratter Chatters" of Annie's Message Board (late 90's).
She was one of the original ratters in the AOL "Rat Chat" in the mid-1990's.
She was owned by bRat Terrier, Sir Artie Phartie (who passed away last year.)
She was preceded in death by her father, the famous comedian in the 1960's - Doodles Weaver
She is survived by her mother, brother, daughter,
cousin actress Sigourney Weaver and many other family members.
Mia
It seems the Animal Shelter must have made a typo when they listed Mia as "Fox Terrier".
They stated she was a "Teddy Roosevelt Fox Terrier". I thought that was strange because
I thought Teddy Roosevelt had been associated with Rat Terriers, not Fox Terriers, and she sure
did have the B'rat ears. Sandi said she sure looked like a B'rat to her too, so I did some research.
According to this website, she is a Teddy Roosevelt Terrier, which is a variety of Rat Terrier and is
considered a RARE breed, recognized by the United Kingdom Kennel Club. Isn't that interesting!
Her and Maggie are still having problems and they actually mixed it up this morning and I had to pull them apart.
Neither was hurt thankfully. However, it seems to have cleared the air a little.
They seem to be getting along better since then.

The following was found posted very low on a refrigerator door.
The dishes with the paw prints are yours and contain your food. The other
dishes are mine and contain my food. Placing a paw print in the middle of my
plate and food does not stake a claim for it becoming your food and dish,
nor do I find that aesthetically pleasing in the slightest.
The stairway was not designed by NASCAR and is not a racetrack. Racing me to
the bottom is not the object. Tripping me doesn't help because I fall faster
than you can run.
I cannot buy anything bigger than a king sized bed. I am very sorry about
this. Do not think I will continue sleeping on the couch to ensure your
comfort, however.. Dogs and cats can actually curl up in a ball when they
sleep. It is not necessary to sleep perpendicular to each other, stretched
out to the fullest extent possible. I also know that sticking tails straight
out and having tongues hanging out on the other end to maximize space is
nothing but sarcasm.
For the last time, there is no secret exit from the bathroom! If, by some
miracle, I beat you there and manage to get the door shut, it is not
necessary to claw, whine, meow, try to turn the knob or get your paw under
the edge in an attempt to open the door. I must exit through the same door I
entered. Also, I have been using the bathroom for years - canine/feline
attendance is not required.
The proper order for kissing is: Kiss me first, then go smell the other dog
or cat's butt. I cannot stress this enough.
Finally, in fairness, dear pets, I have posted the following message on the
front door:
TO ALL NON-PET OWNERS WHO VISIT AND LIKE TO COMPLAIN ABOUT OUR PETS:
(1) They live here. You don't.
(2) If you don't want their hair on your clothes, stay off the furniture.
That's why they call it 'fur'-niture.
(3) I like my pets a lot better than I like most people..
(4) To you, they are animals. To me, they are adopted sons/daughters who are
short, hairy, walk on all fours and don't speak clearly.
Remember, dogs and cats are better than kids because they:
(1) Eat less,
(2) Don't ask for money all the time,
(3) Are easier to train,
(4) Normally come when called,
(5) Never ask to drive the car,
(6) Don't smoke or drink,
(7) Don't want to wear your clothes,
(8) Don't have to buy the latest fashions,
(9) Don't need a gazillion dollars for college
And;
(10) If they get pregnant, you can sell their children...

OLD DRUM
George Graham Vest - c. 1855
This speech was given in court while representing a man who sued another for the killing of his dog.
During the trial, Vest ignored the testimony, but when his turn came to present a summation to the jury,
he made the following speech and won the case.
"Gentlemen of the Jury: The best friend a man has in the world may turn against him and become his enemy.
His son or daughter that he has reared with loving care may prove ungrateful. Those who are nearest and dearest to us,
those whom we trust with our happiness and our good name may become traitors to their faith.
The money that a man has, he may lose. It flies away from him, perhaps when he needs it most.
A man's reputation may be sacrificed in a moment of ill-considered action. The people who are prone
to fall on their knees to do us honor when success is with us, may be the first to throw the stone of malice
when failure settles its cloud upon our heads.
The one absolutely unselfish friend that man can have in this selfish world, the one that never deserts him,
the one that never proves ungrateful or treacherous is his dog. A man's dog stands by him in prosperity and in poverty,
in health and in sickness. He will sleep on the cold ground, where the wintry winds blow and the snow drives fiercely,
if only he may be near his master's side. He will kiss the hand that has no food to offer. He will lick the wounds and sores
that come in encounters with the roughness of the world. He guards the sleep of his pauper master as if he were a prince.
When all other friends desert, he remains. When riches take wings, and reputation falls to pieces, he is as constant in his love
as the sun in its journey through the heavens.
If fortune drives the master forth, an outcast in the world, friendless and homeless, the faithful dog asks no higher privilege
than that of accompanying him, to guard him against danger, to fight against his enemies. And when the last scene of all comes,
and death takes his master in its embrace and his body is laid away in the cold ground, no matter if all other friends pursue their way,
there by the graveside will the noble dog be found, his head between his paws, his eyes sad, but open in alert watchfulness,
faithful and true even in death."
