Reformed Germans came to Savannah in 1737 seeking religious freedom and Calvinistic worship of God. After working their terms as indentured servants, they petitioned the Trustees of the colony for a Reformed minister and a parcel of land for their own church. In August 1745, a two-acre tract was granted and remained the present site. John Joakim Zubly was born in Switzerland, ordained in London, and arrived in Savannah to become White Bluff's first pastor. The Meeting House became a Presbyterian church 200 years later when it was received into Savannah Presbytery in 1945. Today, we are a congregation of the Presbyterian Church (USA), seeking to share God's love in Savannah and throughout the world as shown to us in Jesus Christ. |
