WHO ARE WE?

The Highland Light Scottish Society is a small, non-profit organization that promotes Scottish / Celtic Culture and history on Cape Cod and throughout New England .  We hold various events such as “Tartan Day” which celebrates Americans of Scottish decent that have played a vibrant and influential role in the development of the United States . We also hold dinners and gatherings in honor of important historic Scots such as St. Andrew and Robert Burns, along with Scottish traditions such as “Kirkin’ of the Tartan” and other community outreach activities such as hosting “teas” and participating in local holiday parades.

WHAT IS A SCOTTISH FESTIVAL?

Scottish Festivals are held all over the United States , Canada , Scotland and as far away as Australia !  Festivals generally consist of Scottish/Irish Pipe Bands, Scottish Dancing, Highland Heavy Athletics, Celtic musicians, vendors, and Scottish food. Participants and enthusiasts travel far and wide to attend these festivals.

In addition, our three local and very well known Pipe bands will be performing; The Highland Light Scottish Pipe Band, The Colum Cille Pipes and Drums of Cape Cod and The Brian Boru Pipe Band. We will be hosting Heavy Athletic competitions including the Sheaf Toss Championship, Caber Toss, Putting Stone, Hammer Throw along with a kid-sized version of the heavy athletics for the children to participate in.  There will be exceptional local and regional entertainment from performers such as Annalivia,  the Dramm Boys, Anne Pause and her melodic ensemble of Harps and Fiddle.  As an extra special treat, there will be a Master Falconer who will be displaying an American eagle along with other fascinating birds of prey while sharing the history and lore of how important these birds were to the Medieval Scots.

Thank you for your support! We hope to see you at the Cape Cod Scottish Festival!
