SAFETY TOWN PROGRAM IS A HUGE SUCCESS
The Ewing Kiwanis and Ewing Schools joint Safety Town Program for 2005 was a huge success. With record attendance of 60 students and 24 Student Consoler volunteers, graduation was celebrated on Friday, July 8th at the Ewing High School gym. It was a wonderful and touching event as the program coordinator; Mrs. Joann Cooper-Harris prompted the pre-school children to sing the safety songs and demonstrate what they learned in the two week program. As well it was very rewarding to see how many of our middle school and high school students volunteered their time for two weeks of their summer vacation to teach safety to the children. Our volunteers receive a small stipend for their efforts and it was very touching is the fact that two of our Student Volunteers, Shannon and Shelby Pedersen returned their stipend to the Kiwanis. Five new bikes were purchased thanks to some of our Ewing Kiwanians who made a special donation above and beyond this year for new bicycles. Members in attendance at graduation were Mark Wetherbee, President Ewing Kiwanis, Barbara Guz, Wayne Staub, Brian McKeon, and Donald Cox.
The Program was a success due to the coordinated efforts of the Program Chair and President Elect, Mr. Jerry Spencer, Co-Chair Mr. Joe Schmeltz, Ewing Business Admisistrator Mr. Dennis Nettleton, and BA Staff Assistant, Ms. Jean Conrad.
The entire graduation will be broadcast on Ewing Channel 19 in about two weeks. Also there was coverage by WHYY channel 12 and NJN channel 8. Please visit the photos page to view the photo of the town after construction with the construction team in attendance.
As well the Ewing Kiwanis sends a special thank you to our corporate sponsors, NJ Manufacturers, Heath Lumber, Joan George RE Max, Sign-A-Rama, RD Weis and Co., Chris Anderson Roofing and Erection, Charles Allen – Attorney at Law, Housman’s Tax Planning Service, Colonial Cadillac, Ewing Township Education Association, and T&M Associates.
