Students are chosen by the school based on their academic achievement and demonstration of citizenship and leadership qualities. The Ewing Kiwanis each year since 1981 provides a miniature town constructed in one of the school's gymnasiums in Ewing. The two week program is for preschoolers in Ewing Township and it teaches them traffic safety, school bus safety, stranger safety, how to dial 911 for mom, dad and family, and accident prevention. This year they received a visit from Officer Friendly of the Ewing Township Police Department, and had an opportunity to meet a working police dog. The children visited Prospect Heights Fire Department where they were taught what to do in a fire and not to play with matches; they even witnessed the firefighters preparing for and responding to a fire call. This year Safety Town was again a huge success with 43 pre-school students and 23 Student Volunteer Counselors.

Circle K is an international collegiate service organization that is a sponsored leadership program of Kiwanis International. It promotes service, leadership, and fellowship. With over 13,250 members, it is the largest collegiate service organization of its kind in the world.

Pictured left to right are Mrs. Barbara Gusz - Ewing Kiwanis Liaison to the Ewing Key Club, Katelyn Coluccio - President, Ryan Leverton - Secretary, and Emily Driver - Vice President. Key Club is the oldest and largest service program for high school students. It's a student-led organization that teaches leadership through serving others. Members of the Kiwanis International family, Key Club members build themselves as they build their schools and communities. Today, Key Club exists on more than 5,000 high school campuses, primarily in the United States and Canada. Key Clubs also exist in many Caribbean nations, Central and South America, Asia and Australia.

Also they receive a visit from Officer Friendly of the Ewing Township Police Department, as well as Officer McGruff the safety Dog. The children also have a chance to visit one of the Township fire departments where they are taught what to do in a fire and not to play with matches. This year Safety Town was again a huge success with over 50 pre-scoool students and 15 Student Volunteers.
