The Gift of God

There are many occasions, around the world, when it is customary to give presents. Maybe such an occasion is approaching for you. Are you looking forward to opening your presents? Often what we want and what we need are two different things. We don't always get the gifts that we want. Many don't receive even what they need.

A person might want some luxurious gift but their winter coat is too small and full of holes. Sometimes both needs and wants are not affordable, and a choice has to be made. Some luxurious gift might seem attractive and very important. But how warm is some luxury gift going to keep a person when the North wind blows and what they really needed was a new coat?

By nature we never want the things that we really need.

What things? We are always after things that we think will be nice to have, things we think will please us and make us happy. It is not wrong to have things. It is our attitude to them that is so often wrong. We make the things we have to be MOST IMPORTANT. So often we are taken up with what we have and what we want instead of those things that will really be good for us. Our great enemy, Satan wants us to go through life in this way A heroin addict would risk death for a fix. Does that make sense?

This is how we all are by nature. We want things that will not help us and ignore what will. God sees and knows all there is to know. God knows what each of us is in most need of. James 1:17 "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning."

All that each one of us has is given to us by God. A bsolutely all we have is from Him. Mark 8:36 "For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?"

There is a gift to be had that is of far greater value than every other gift anyone could mention. There is a gift chosen with our greatest need in mind. A gift chosen by God in His great wisdom. It is a gift that is most amazing. This gift is not what people want but it is the best gift they could receive. John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that he GAVE his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."

God gives eternal life through The Lord Jesus Christ who was born into the world as a baby about 2000 years ago. It was for this purpose He came into the world. The Lord Jesus lived a perfect life but died as if He was a sinner. All in the place of sinners that they might be GIVEN eternal life and a place in heaven. Ask God to give you this gift and He will. Repent of your sinful ways - turn your back on disobedience to God. Believe that The Lord Jesus is The Eternal Son of God and that He came into the world to save sinners.

Pray to Him. Ask Him to show you what all this means. He has promised that all who seek Him will find Him and, in Him they will find peace with God and a place in Heaven for eternity
