The Lord of the Rings: Costume Site is dedicated to the comparison between J. R. R. Tolkien's writtings and the Lord of the Rings movies directed by Peter Jackson. Detailed in this site are quotes from Tolkien's books, Ngila Dickson (costume designer for the Lord of the Rings), and quotes from authoritative sources on the Lord of the Rings (books and movies).

Since this is a site about costumes we have only focused on creatures played by humans in the films, we do not discuss characters played by puppets, robots, or CGI. This means that there is no information on Ents, or gollum, or others like them. We are also not an image library, the photographs and drawings that we have included are here as examples of the costumes. Finally, we do not include directions for making costumes or a place to buy Lord of the Rings memorabilia.

The Lord of the Rings: Costume Site was designed, researched, and created by two Rutgers University: School of Communication, Information and Library Studies students as a project for the Digital Libraries class taught by Michael Lesk during the Fall 2003 semester.
