Home of the Brave Quilt Project
Oregon Chapter National Coordinator: Catherine Kreter Oregon Coordinator: Kaye Vicars Hansen
This
nationwide effort to show our support for the families of service men and
women was established in 2004 by Don Beld, nationally recognized quilter
and historian of Redlands, California. Just
as the quilters in early American history were dedicated in their
heartfelt efforts to support the soldiers, we are working to show our
gratitude for their service and sacrifice by providing these commemorative
Home of the Brave quilts for the family of each serviceman or woman killed
in Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan) and Operation New Dawn (Iraq). The
Oregon Chapter is using the
"Album Block" quilt pattern in fabrics that are based on the
prints used during the Civil War time period. If you would like to create
a block or a complete quilt, please click on the links for Patterns and
Directions. For
more information about the Sanitary Commission quilts, please visit To
date, over 3,800 quilts have been delivered to families across the
country. The number of soldiers and
Marines with ties to the State of Oregon who have sacrificed their lives
continues to grow. We are asking
Oregon quilters to join with other quilters across the United States and
show their support to the families of our Oregon service men and women who
have died. For more information
about how you can help, please click on the link, or contact the
Oregon Coordinator or National Coordinator listed to the left.
If
you are a family member of one of our fallen heroes and have not been
contacted, please contact
me to make arrangements for delivery
of a quilt.
