Volunteers and Donors

This project would not be possible without Oregonians so generously giving of their time and materials.  Several have made many blocks, others have pieced several tops, and some are graciously offering their time and talent doing beautiful quilting to finish these gifts of honor. As the number of volunteers sewing, and otherwise supporting, the Oregon Home of the Brave Quilt Project grows, their names will be listed below. Thank you to all our volunteers!

I shall pass through this world but once.  Any good thing therefore that I can do, or any kindness that I can show to any human being, let me do it now.   Let me not defer it or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.
 Etienne de Grellet

VOLUNTEERS and DONORS
Volunteers don't get paid, not because they're worthless, but because they're priceless.~Author Unknown

Volunteer Quilters

Fabric Stores

Beaverton Mill End Store - Their weekly quilting group pieced and quilted four beautiful quilts.

Greenbaums Quilted Forest, Salem - Their customers donated 20 wonderful blocks they made during a special sew-in on Memorial Day.

Gresham Craft Warehouse - Their fabric manager, Monika Reese, made this project a Block of the Month and their group donated enough blocks to make 12 quilt tops.

Pioneer Quilts, Happy Valley (www.PioneerQuiltShop.com)  - At the re-opening of their store after moving from the previous Damascus location, Co-Owners Linda Hadley and Carol Peters have one of the areas greatest inventories, if not the BEST, of Civil War reproduction fabrics. The caring ladies of this store are all knowledgeable and most supportive of The Home of the Brave Quilt Project, and the shop offers a discount on all fabrics purchased for making a Home of the Brave quilt or blocks. In addition, their 1800's club is helping out with piecing and quilting several quilts. You'll find a great selection of other beautiful lines of fabric, books and notions, too, so whatever you need, stop in to say Hi to Carol and Linda. We're so grateful for their dedicated support of our fallen heroes, and our mission to bring comfort to the families.

Donors and Other Businesses

A Joy Forever Scrapbooking, Gresham - This is a scrap booker's DREAM store and owners David and Joy Burgess have generously donated albums, material and hours of labor from their talented staff, Edie and Carlah. They are building scrapbooks to document all the quilts presented for the Oregon Chapter's Home of the Brave Quilts. This scrapbook will eventually be donated to the State of Oregon.

Gresham Fred Meyer - Donation of a whole case of gift boxes used for quilt presentations for the second year in a row.

Office Max, Portland - Manager, Steve Galer is very helpful and gives us a generous discount for the beautiful folders for the certificates given to each family with their quilt.

Office Depot, Gresham and Clackamas - Gives us their discount for charities on large numbers of photocopies. They also have given us a generous discount for the beautiful folders for the certificates given to each family with their quilt.

The Warm Company - This company truly has a warm heart.  They have been so extremely generous and each year donate several large rolls of batting.

Frank Adams Wholesale Florist, Portland - General manager Richard Bierman and staff member Patty made a donation of several large rolls of beautiful patriotic ribbon used to wrap the quilts for presentation to the families.

A Joy Forever Scrapbooking, Gresham - This is a scrap booker's DREAM store and owners David and Joy Burgess have generously donated albums, material and hours of labor from their talented staff, Edie and Carlah. This scrapbook will eventually be donated to the State of Oregon.

Disabled American Veterans Assn., Portland Chapter -  Our deepest appreciation to the men and women of this organization for their generous financial donation.  It's hard to know how to thank a group like this who has already given so much to our community and our country. They understand better than most the need to comfort the families of our fallen heroes, and with pride stepped forward to help us.  Their donation has allowed us to purchase fabrics and continue to personally deliver Home of the Brave Quilts to all corners of Oregon, and as we quickly became caught up, to continue to provide quilts to help other states

Special heartfelt thanks to Judy Howard of Buckboard Antique quilts in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. BuckboardQuilts.com
Judy was deeply moved by our project and graciously donated funds that have significantly helped the Oregon chapter with the purchase of materials and supplies needed to complete and deliver quilts to our fallen heroes' families. Please visit Judy's other website HeavenlyPatchwork.com to see the miniature quilts donated for her God Bless America Quilt Tour. This traveling quilt show can be booked by anyone for a wonderful display of support for our troops and a beautiful showing of patriotic quilting in America today.
