Blocks can be made by hand or by machine. They should be in the Cross X pattern. Even if you aren't an experienced quilter, you can make a block with the simple instructions referred to on the Patterns and Directions page. Good quality 100% cotton Civil War or 19th century reproduction fabrics are preferred, but any fabric that has the "feel" or "flavor" of the 19th century will be acceptable.
If you are willing to piece a top from blocks donated to the project, please contact the state coordinator.
If
you would like to help us with these final steps, we’d love to year from you
too! Quilting can be done by
hand, sewing machine, or long-arm quilting machine.
When
blocks or tops are donated to us, we need thread, sashing and backing fabrics to
finish the quilts. If you have any of these items, or want to purchase them for
donation, we'll be grateful to receive them.
Office supplies
are needed for document printing and postage is becoming more expensive every
day. We try to personally deliver as many quilts as possible, so the fuel
expense is another area we appreciate assistance with.
Please contact the Oregon State Coordinator if you would like to help us
with these needs.
We
appreciate ALL the help we can get in this department!
Please pass the word on to any quilters or others who will appreciate
this effort and perhaps want to be a part of honoring our Oregon heroes.
Please tell your local fabric stores about this project and ask them to
contact the State Coordinator to see if there is anything we might do to help
them feature this project at events or sewing group sessions at their stores.
More
Information
Thanks to the generosity and dedication of Oregon's quilters and donors, we are quickly getting quilts finished and delivered to the families of Oregon's fallen heroes.
If you will look at the National website, www.homeofthebravequilts.com, on the Fallen Heroes page you will see a map and as you place your curser on each state you will see how many casualties for that state, and the number of quilts delivered. Some states do not have a coordinator or many volunteers, so the states are helping each other out. Oregon will be donating some of our finished quilts to other states as long as we are caught up on the quilts for Oregon families. Our long arm quilters have also agreed to help.
If you have ties to another state and have family or friends that you think may like to help with quilts for the families of their fallen heroes, please contact our National Coordinator Sandi Carstensen.
For more information about where to send blocks, tops, quilts or supplies, or if you have any other questions, please contact Kaye Hansen, Oregon State Coordinator.
