Welcome to RBL Romantica!
Here are some hints about how to do a post, if you're a newbie, and some general posting guidelines for everyone, so we can keep a great balance of harmony at our board. Please read and abide by our simple requests.
General Posting
One of the beautiful things about RBL Romantica is that we are a glorious mix of women and conversation, social as well as book talk. But RBL is a book board first and foremost. Over the years, we've successfully managed a delicate mix of sharing our personal lives without losing the main focus. Our "rules" are simple and few, but some guidelines to keep in mind are as follows:
If you have an ongoing event of a personal nature in your life and you want to share it, please do post it initially. Then, when following up with later details, please post a short main post with topic and carry your details in an inside response to your own original post, as a kind of "update". That way people can respond to you but leaves room on the board for other more general topics.
We ALWAYS want to share our personal loves, hurts, families, pets, and the occasional "funny", but we must use our common sense about board space and interest to all. We do not want RBL Romantica to look like an advice column/board.
Also, the topics of politics and religion are NOT topics at RBL! No ifs, ands or buts about it!
As mentioned above, it's a delicate balance, but one that has been maintained for many years and must be maintained in the future in order to preserve the integrity and "culture" that RBL was always meant to be.
The Main Board and the Book Discussion Board - IMPORTANT
PLEASE DO talk about books, old or new, at the Main Board. This is where we get our great recommends and is the ultimate purpose of RBL. It is also our way of promoting our authors' work.
The Book Chat Board is exclusively for discussing books you've read in depth with others who've read it too - spoilers included. You do NOT have to go there to say how you enjoyed a book or to pass the "good word". That should be at the Main Board for everyone to see; since most people won't go to the Book Chat board because of spoilers, they won't see the great things you've said or your recommend. Use the Main Board for ALL book talk, except spoilers.
Posting Pointers For Newbies:
Just jump right in! Hit "Post A New Message" at the top of the board and GO FOR IT! We'll love having you with us!
You may notice we do almost all responses to posts on the outside of the board instead of inside, and that's because we're all too lazy to click and read the inside. So don't hide your response, keep it outside with the others. To do this, when you post a response, put all your words in the *Message subject* box, NOT the * Type your message here* box.
Using message board icons:
Click on the little smiley face icon at the top of the board. There are three great pages of fun icons to use to make your post more animated. Directions for how to use them are neatly spelled out at the top of each page.
Personal Icons:
Aside from all the fun icons, you will notice there are also personal icons that have been chosen and designed (by our wonderful icon "fairy" - Beaty!) to fit individual personalities at RBL. They are fun and in some way identify our character and personalities. These icons are a special "mark" - a symbol of those who have become part of our RBL family. We would ask that anyone requesting a personal icon interact with RBL for a period of time, on a regular basis and that you get to know the people who live here and demonstrate that you have a true interest in RBL. So use your time as you are becoming a part of our family, to think of what YOUR special "identity" will be and then you can work with our magical Icon Fairy to make it "yours".
