Cupids Double Edged Sword

knowin trouble seem beyond
broad roads full of empty minds
distant toothpick telephone poles hiding death
real life competition, ride to live
fate will be unsung for the rider
watch their eyes, sense their moves
see them they are in your mirrors
they are behind the next building
the next drive
they do not see you
cellphoimportant whiners changing lanes
potholes that don’t grab cars
executives with steering wheels coming out of bars
side street Sammy itchin to go
icy puddle from some time ago
the odds are bad for the unprepared
no one is safe few are spared
youngsters dart invincible
hurtling mindlessly
in cages of pig iron and plastic
built to fit daddys budget
experimenting the night touching at the dark side
in rookyisms of fear and wonder
to recoil or fall prey
if they passed it in school
they must be good drivers
and mothers coax toddlers to sit
while grannys drive slow, their poodles hanging ten
another hazard for the rider
another tale of where and when
unsweepable gravel rubs together dusty hands
boards from backs of pick-ups
coils of packing bands
sittin at a light still waiting,
watching,
choose your positions carefully
dartin danny datsun
is talkin to his freind
reachin cross the backseat
to pass the joint again
woke-up late loretta’s also bearin down
did ya leave yourself an out
will you be leavin town
