What is Graphology?

One of the best definitions for Graphology came from the Director of the Institute of Graphological Science (tIGS), the late Mary Lynn Bryden.

Graphology, she wrote, "is the name for that branch of psychology dealing with the study, analysis and interpretation of handwriting for the purpose of obtaining a personality profile on the writer.

"Handwriting analysis is, therefore, a subjective personality test, which requires specialized training on the part of the interpreter to gain accurate results. Handwriting has been called brain writing because the process of handwriting is a subconscious function that precisely duplicates the thought patterns, emotions and personality of the individual. Impulses from the subconscious mind are carried as thought, attitudes, and feelings through the brain down through the hand and pen, registering within the letter structures as symbols which can be interpreted by a trained graphologist much like interpreting a foreign language."

Graphology is an authentic science in which the one being analyzed cannot fake things. It is becoming popular for US companies to use graphology as an aid in hiring and promoting employees. When analyzing a person's writing sample, a graphologist examines up to 300 aspects of a person's script. Traits commonly analyzed include decisiveness, empathy, problem solving ability, organizational skill, enthusiasm, persuasiveness, as well as being a self-starter. Also, people's motivation is examined, such as money, approval, ego drive, or an opportunity to grow in responsibility.

The US Supreme Court has ruled that analysis of handwriting for jury service is not a violation of personal privacy. Criminal defendants can be compelled to produce samples of their handwriting. Trial lawyers have turned to use handwriting to gain edge. Some police departments use handwriting analysis for security reasons as well as rehabilitating prisoners.

Many organizations and clubs have sought the services of graphologists, as well as schools, churches, law enforcement, early childhood workers, personal directors, bank officers, couples engaged to marry, and guidance councilors.

Graphology is a helpful tool benefiting any walk of life, as the person analyzed becomes aware of new and old realities that he/she can change or enhance for the rest of life's journey.

Graphology is also an expression of self, as moods change so does handwriting. Have your own script analyzed, and get ready for some interesting information along with a few surprises.
