Cabaret Voltaire. In 1916, Hugo Ball placed a small advertisement in the local Zurich newspaper that read: "Cabaret Voltaire. Under this name a group of young artists and writers has been formed whose aim is to create a center for artistic entertainment. The idea of the cabaret will be that guest artists will come and give musical performances and readings at the daily events. The young artists of Zurich, whatever their orientation, are invited to come along with suggestions and contributions of all kinds." This was the beginning of the formation of the group that created Dada. We duplicated this quote and placed it in Los Angeles newspapers in advance of holding CABARET VOLTAIRE 2003 after every Thursday performance of THE DADAISTS. Each week we had a different guest host from the local art scene to curate the events of the evening. Flyers wrere circulated in different foreign languages and in local neighborhood presses as well. This was an opportunity for artists and anyone to openly express in an environment mirroring the play, thus bringing Dada into an interactive experiential motif. We will duplicate this endeavor in every city where we bring The Dadaists.
