Blessed
by Michelle Stace
Blessed are the poor in spirit;
Seeing the bankruptcy of their soul.
Of their own they have no merit;
Weak and foolish; not mighty or noble.
Blessed are they that mourn;
Seeing the depth of indwelling sin.
New life in the heart is born;
God’s purging work now begins.
Blessed are the meek;
Gentle and humble and kind.
Vain glory they do not seek;
But wait upon the Lord to guide.
Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after righteousness;
Striving for God’s wisdom and purity.
The Spirit teaches them His holiness;
The sign and seal of surety.
Blessed are the merciful;
This same mercy have they received.
Food for the orphan and widow;
Caring help for those in need.
Blessed are the pure in heart;
Washed in the blood of the Lamb.
Sanctified and set apart;
to be holiness for the great I AM.
Blessed are the peacemakers;
No contention and no strife.
Of Christ’s peace a partaker;
Obedience brings this life.
Blessed are those persecuted for righteousness;
Rejoicing at being worthy to suffer.
Conformed to the image of Christ likeness;
Their life a sweet sacrifice to offer.
