The Folly of Man
by Michelle Stace

I am a little Sucker fish, my worth beyond compare.
Just look at Klamath farmers, to see how they have fared.

Their land is dry and empty, and many farms were lost.
But the water is all mine, so for me they paid the cost.

I am a Silver salmon, my worth beyond compare.
Chutes and ladders have they built me; media coverage on the air.

I'm sacred to the Indians, my power is very great.
I've lamed the fishing industry, I leave them to their fate.

I am the Spotted owl, my worth beyond compare.
For me,  a few cried foul; I'm a specimen so rare.

Endless people lost their jobs; I brought logging to a halt.
A way of life was changed, to protect my habitat.

I'm a Rocky Mountain elk, I am a Big Horn sheep.
Wise, all knowing man, think we cannot earn our keep.

They fly above in choppers, and shoot us with a dart;
Transport our drugged up bodies, to a land of unknown parts.

I am an unborn child, my worth beyond compare?
The courts pronounced me guilty; my innocence? they didn't care.

My mother doesn't want me,  is there anyone who does?
Please don't take me to the butcher,  he slaughters just because.

God gave dominion to the man, the earth is to subdue.
He put it in man's care;  a gift to wisely use.

But the folly of mankind, has been unfaithful to that trust.
They've elevated animal kind, leaving humans in the dust.
