Thoughts to Ponder

“In grace as in nature God usually works gently,  softly, unperceived except by the effects produced. The greatest  fidelity and  devotion  to God are not to be found where excitement and sensationalism hold forth.”     ~A.W. Pink~

“If prayer is hindered, even though it be hindered by devotion to other duties of religion, the health of the soul is impaired. Communion with God is the condition of spiritual growth.”   ~David MacIntyre~

“Those who were  His  true  servants denounced the “entertainments,” “socials,” and other  worldly  devices  employed by the churches to “hold the young people.” Those who were the true servants of Christ refused to use carnal methods for adding numbers of nominal professors to their membership.”
     ~A.W. Pink~

‘Even our self-righteousness is put to shame by our conversion, and we receive the righteousness of Christ, so also, sooner or later, must our own strength be put to shame in order that the power of Christ may remain in us. Would God’s children but understand that their own strength is one of their worst enemies!’        ~G. Steinberger~

"People are too wrapped up in 'when' they became converted.  They wear it like a badge of  'proof ' that they are a Christian. Instead they should be much more concerned with their walk  reflecting the claim they make."

“In prayer we present ourselves to God, holding our motives in His clear light, and estimating them after the counsel of His will. Thus our thought and feelings arrange themselves into classes; those that rise towards the honour of God taking precedence of those that drift downwards towards the gratification of self.”   ~David MacIntyre~

“The ‘patience’ of Christians is not a passive virtue but an active grace, not a natural endowment but a supernatural fruit. It  signifies  endurance: it is that which enables the saints to persevere in the face of discouragements, to hold on their way despite all opposition."   ~A.W.Pink~

"Perfect love casteth our fear" -  As humans we are always so fearful about what others will think or say in response to something we say or do.When it comes to speaking of God, or of our beliefs to others, we are often afraid of offending them or of being ridiculed. "Perfect love casteth out fear" - When our love for God is over all else, when it is the very center of our being, then fear is no longer an issue. We become willing and happy to speak for the Lord and only afraid of bringing shame to Him in anyway."

“False sanctification leads one to think highly of himself; he speaks of the experience he has had, of the development to which he has attained, and so on. Biblical sanctification brings a person down into the dust, annihilates every “grace of the soul,” and leaves only one desire: to be pleasing to God. Sanctification is nothing but obedience.”      ~G. Steinberger~

“The same Word which calls upon us to believe in Christ as an all-sufficient Savior, also bids us to believe the commandments of God, for the molding of our hearts and the guiding of our ways. There is a necessary connection between the precepts and the promises, for the latter cannot do us good until  the  former be heeded: our consent to the Law precedes our faith in the Gospel.”   ~A.W. Pink~

“Let no man that can find time to bestow upon his vanities . . . say he wants leisure for prayer.”   ~The Whole Duty of Man~

“Carnal reason is unable to rest until a solution is in sight, until it can see a way out of its difficulties. But faith spreads the need before God, rolls the burden upon Him, and calmly leaves the solution to Him.” -A.W. Pink-

"I have never found any one who prayed so well as those who had never been taught how. they who have no master in man have one in the Holy spirit. '       -Pere La Combe-

“There is something much deeper than assurance of salvation, and that is the consciousness that we belong together with Christ. We are called and chosen, predestined from eternity for the Son. There is a great difference between these two things: whether I consider myself as one who is “found” or as one who is “chosen.” There is something accidental about being found, but when I am chosen,  I acknowledge the eternal grace of God over me.”   ~G. Steinberger~

“There is both a negative and a positive side to faith. First, a refusing, and then a choosing, and that order is unchanging. There must be a “ceasing to do evil” before there can be a “learning to do well.”   ~A.W. Pink~

“It is not enough to begin to pray, nor to pray aright; nor is it enough to continue for a time to pray; but we must patiently, believingly, continue in prayer until we obtain an answer; and further we have not only to continue in prayer unto the end, but we have also to believe that God does hear us, and will answer our prayers. Most frequently we fail in not continuing in prayer until the blessing is obtained, and in not expecting the blessing.” ~George Muller~

"Strength is born in the deep silence of long-suffering hearts, not amid joy."    unknown
