Most of this dialogue is the same
as that for the v-log The log periodic antenna comes in many flavors. Two
element varieties are uncommon, but not unheard of. There are models with
as many as 40 elements and 125 foot length. Originally the counted one
set of arms as one element. That is the method I am using. A 40 element
antenna is a total of 80 arms. Forty per side. Depending on the slope from
the narrow end to the wide, these antennae can have a frequency response
that is greater than 10:1. The larger ones have a well defined, sharp primary
lobe. Because the elements are perpendicular to the signal they offer good
side rejection. This makes them a better choice in than the v-log in areas
where ghosting is a problem. As far as linearity of response and overall
gain, they are a very good choice.
